Students from Metro Prep’s VENTURE Programme and business-related courses recently participated in the May 2026 UWaterloo Financial Literacy Competition, organized by the University of Waterloo School of Accounting and Finance.
This year’s competition brought together more than 1,100 students from 65 high schools across Canada, giving our students a great opportunity to apply their financial literacy, business knowledge, and critical thinking skills in a competitive setting.
Metro Prep is proud to recognize the following students, including two Gold recipients who also earned Senior Honour Roll rankings:
Senior Honour Roll
- Valentina Peresi – Gold Recognition, Senior Honour Roll, 2nd Place
- Aaron Vernon – Gold Recognition, Senior Honour Roll, 7th Place
Gold Recognition
- Andrew Cheng
- Chloe Lopes Fitzgerald
Silver Recognition
- Justin Lopes Fitzgerald
- Maliha Mendiratta
Gold Recognition is awarded to students who achieve a score of 80% or higher, while Silver Recognition is awarded to students who achieve a score between 70% and 79.9%. Senior Honour Roll placement recognizes top-performing students within the senior competition category.
The VENTURE Programme builds toward results like this through coursework that treats business as something students actually do. Students build structured business plans, work through case studies on real companies, and test pricing and go-to-market strategies for their own original business concepts. Competitions like this one give them a chance to put that work up against students from other schools and earn recognition in a broader academic setting.
Congratulations to all participating students on their outstanding performance!
