Metro Prep Academy is excited to offer a school-wide cultural arts trip to Stratford, Ontario, on Friday, September 18, 2026, for all students in Grades 7–12 and accompanying staff. Students will travel by coach bus to the Stratford Festival to experience a live production of The Hobbit.
This trip provides students with an opportunity to experience professional theatre in one of Canada’s most celebrated cultural destinations. Seeing a live production allows students to move beyond the classroom and experience firsthand the creativity, discipline, collaboration, and technical skill involved in bringing a story to the stage.
Learning Outcomes
Students will have the opportunity to:
- Develop an appreciation for live theatre and the performing arts.
- Explore how literature can be adapted from the page to the stage.
- Observe professional approaches to acting, directing, set design, costumes, lighting, sound, and stagecraft.
- Connect their classroom learning in English, Drama, Visual Arts, and the Humanities with a professional cultural experience.
- Develop critical-thinking skills by reflecting on the interpretation and theatrical choices made in the production.
- Experience the importance of collaboration, communication, creativity, and ensemble work.
- Gain exposure to one of Ontario’s most important cultural and artistic institutions.
Most importantly, the trip is designed to encourage students to become active participants in the arts and in the broader cultural life of their community. A visit to Stratford is an opportunity to experience theatre not simply as an academic subject, but as a living, collaborative art form that connects literature, history, imagination, and human experience.
The Stratford Festival trip will be an exciting opportunity for the entire Metro Prep community to learn, explore, and enjoy a memorable day together.
