How much of New York City can you experience in just four days? From October 27 to 30, a group of MetroPrep students in Grades 9-12, led by Ryan and Jaclyn, headed to the Big Apple to find out. Their adventure took them from the towering skyscrapers of Midtown to the historic streets of Lower Manhattan, with four days of sightseeing, cultural discovery, and memorable experiences along the way.
Discovering the Heart of Manhattan
With an itinerary spanning some of New York’s best-known landmarks and public spaces, students brought their classroom learning to life by engaging directly with the art, architecture, history, and culture that make the city so extraordinary. The group explored Midtown and beyond, taking in the bright lights of Rockefeller Center, the grand architecture of Grand Central Station, and the green landscapes of Central Park and Bryant Park.
Exploring SoHo and Chelsea Market gave students a taste of Manhattan’s distinct neighbourhood character, while a walk through the bustling streets of Wall Street and the Financial District offered a glimpse of one of the world’s most famous business hubs. A visit to the 9/11 Memorial also brought the group to one of New York’s most significant historical landmarks, offering a powerful firsthand connection to modern history and a site that continues to shape the city and the wider world.
Skyline Views, Halloween Spirit, and Broadway Stagecraft
Beyond daytime sightseeing, some of the trip’s most memorable highlights took place after sunset. Students boarded an evening boat cruise to take in spectacular views of Manhattan’s illuminated skyline from the water. With the city’s famous skyscrapers glowing against the night sky and the iconic Statue of Liberty rising above the harbour, it was a chance to admire the scale and beauty of New York from an entirely different perspective.
With Halloween just around the corner, the group embraced the spooky season with a visit to a haunted house, adding a little fright to their Manhattan adventure. The trip culminated on Broadway with an incredible live performance of Stranger Things, where out-of-this-world sound and special effects brought the story to life on stage.
Four Days of Discovery and Connection
While Manhattan’s landmarks and attractions provided plenty of highlights, some of the most valuable moments came simply from travelling together. Spending four days exploring one of the world’s most exciting cities gave students across Grades 9 through 12 the chance to connect outside their usual school routines, strengthen friendships, and build a closer sense of community. At MetroPrep, experiences like these extend learning beyond the classroom, encouraging students to discover new places, engage with different perspectives, and develop a greater understanding of the world around them.
A special thank you to our students for representing MetroPrep with such enthusiasm and pride, to Ryan and Jaclyn for leading this incredible adventure, and to our families for their continued support in making experiences like this possible.
Four days, one incredible city, and memories to last a lifetime. Metro definitely made its mark on Manhattan!
