Metro Prep’s GENIUS Lab is Open for Science

The GENIUS program at Metro Prep is now in full swing, with students beginning their first series of hands-on laboratory experiments. Equipped with new lab coats and a healthy dose of curiosity, these young scientists are gaining practical skills used every day in professional research labs.

Over the past two weeks, GENIUS 11 students have completed two key foundational labs. In the contamination prevention lab, students explored how pathogens can spread in a laboratory environment, and learned prevention protocols that keep researchers and their work safe.

The second lab introduced students to micropipettes, which are precision instruments that allow scientists to measure and transfer tiny volumes of liquid with accuracy.

Together, these early lessons form the building blocks for more advanced work ahead. As the program progresses, students will tackle increasingly complex projects in genetics, molecular biology, and biotechnology, developing the real-world lab skills that will serve them well in future science courses and careers in research, medicine, and beyond.
