Explore the world of clinical genetics on Monday, March 30th at 10 a.m. in a hands-on workshop led by Dr. Erin Styles, Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, hosted by the Metro Prep Genius Program.
Dr. Styles has been teaching students about human genetics and molecular biology in the Department of Molecular Genetics since 2017. She is a classically trained systems biologist with expertise in DNA damage, replication, and repair, and is now the Associate Chair of the Molecular Genetics department, responsible for the Undergraduate curriculum and academic programming. Her current research focuses on course and program assessments of success, including the attainment of learning objectives within individual courses, post-graduate success, and the overall impact of programs using a variety of metrics.
In this workshop, students will investigate how genetic differences shape traits and can result in inherited conditions. Through practical activities and guided exercises, they will see how scientists use genetic tools to tackle real-world challenges, from diagnosing diseases to developing new treatments. This session offers a unique opportunity to link classroom biology with the forefront of clinical genetics.
