There is no better way to learn or improve knowledge about Canadian culture and the English language than to live with one of Metro Prep's homestay families. All students have their own well-designed rooms including a study area, 3 balanced meals, their own bedroom... all within minutes of the school campus.
Metro Prep’s Homestay Program is unlike any other high school Homestay Program in Canada. The Homestay Director ensures that all students under her care are successful. There is no better way to learn or improve knowledge about culture and a language than to live in one of our homes. By living with a great family, our students are given the opportunity to share in meals, conversation, life experiences, and daily activities. All students have their own well-designed rooms located within minutes of the school campus. Metro Prep homestay families are motivated by the idea of making cross-cultural friendships, ensuring academic success and providing a safe living environment. All homestay families get to know each student as an individual and continue the relationship after the homestay experience is over.
All host families are carefully selected. What makes our Metro Prep’s Program so unique is that the homestay experience is much like a real “HOME away from home”. Students get the benefit of living with a wonderful family while also living in the same home as their classmates and therefore learn to interact as siblings and classmates, much like a dormitory experience.
Typical family activities include celebrating one another’s birthdays, going to the movies with a host family member, enjoying long dinners together, doing crossword puzzles to improve language skills, meeting the neighbours over a swim in the family pool, going for bicycle rides or long walks on the boardwalk, visiting local shops, sites, and city centres together.
Students are expected to have an interest in other cultures and participate fully in family life. Respect for cultural difference is mutual and each student will enjoy the experience more when rules, expectations, and courtesies are understood.

"I have spent four marvellous months in my Metro Prep Homestay and have had the pleasure of not only experiencing a true, caring family environment during this time, but also to form great, long lasting friendships.
Metropolitan Preparatory Academy’s teachers and principal treat me with the greatest of respect and attention. The quality of education is very high, and the faculty is very well equipped to meet my needs. My classmates are very open towards me."

"My Homestay parents are focused on student’s feelings, education, and happiness. I feel like this is actually my "home" and I feel like I am a daughter of my Homestay parents. Even though I am an international student and in a foreign country, my Homestay family make me feel like our hearts are the same because I feel warm and cared for. The relationships in the house are extremely positive and the mix of cultures makes it so wonderful. We all love, respect and care for each other. I am very glad and very thankful that I live with the Georgopoulos family and have come to Canada to study at Metro Prep!"

"When I first came to my Homestay family I was really scared of what it would be like for me. Within the first 5 minutes I knew it was going to be great and that I had a new Dad and Mom!
I was also excited to know that I had new siblings and before a brand new English vocabulary to assist me in my school work. It seems that I have learned just as much English at my homestay than at school. I have also learned how to be a team player and do my part around the house.
I can’t wait until next semester at Metro Prep and to live with my Homestay family."
