University of Waterloo Comes to MetroPrep

MetroPrep students will have the opportunity to connect directly with the University of Waterloo when a university representative visits the school on Tuesday, October 27.

The presentation will give students an opportunity to learn more about Waterloo’s undergraduate programs, admission requirements and distinctive co-op system, while asking questions directly of a university representative as they consider their post-secondary options.

Waterloo offers more than 100 undergraduate programs across arts, engineering, environment, health, mathematics and science. Students can explore pathways ranging from computer science, engineering and mathematics to business, psychology, health, environmental studies, life sciences and the humanities.

Where University and Work Experience Come Together

One of Waterloo’s defining features is its approach to co-operative education.

Depending on the program, co-op students typically alternate between academic terms and paid work terms, gaining experience with different employers while completing their degree. Students can graduate with up to two years of work experience and may complete as many as six co-op work terms.

With access to more than 8,000 employers, Waterloo students can pursue co-op opportunities in Canada and internationally across a wide range of industries and organizations.

For students considering Waterloo, understanding co-op is an important part of choosing a program. Students apply to a co-op program directly from high school, so the October presentation is an excellent opportunity to ask how co-op works, when work terms begin and how the experience differs across programs.

Students can also ask about Waterloo’s admission process, including program prerequisites and supplementary admission requirements for certain competitive programs.

Students are encouraged to come prepared with questions about the programs they are considering, admission requirements, co-op, scholarships, residence, campus life and the application process.

The presentation is part of MetroPrep’s ongoing university guidance program, giving students direct opportunities to connect with post-secondary institutions, compare different academic pathways and make informed decisions about their future.
