McMaster University Comes to MetroPrep

MetroPrep students will have the opportunity to connect directly with McMaster University when a university representative visits the school on Monday, October 26.

The presentation will give students an opportunity to learn more about McMaster’s undergraduate programs, admission requirements and student experience, while asking questions directly of a university representative as they explore their post-secondary options.

Located in Hamilton, McMaster offers undergraduate study across business, engineering, health sciences, humanities, science and social sciences. Students can also explore interdisciplinary pathways that bring different areas of study together, along with opportunities for research, co-op, internships and other forms of experiential learning.

Explore Academics, Research and Experience

For students considering McMaster, the presentation is an opportunity to look beyond admission requirements and explore what their undergraduate experience could actually involve.

McMaster places a strong emphasis on connecting academic study with experiences beyond the classroom. Depending on their program, students may participate in paid co-op or internships, undergraduate research, field and clinical placements, community-based learning and international study opportunities.

Students interested in science, health and engineering can also explore distinctive interdisciplinary options such as Integrated Biomedical Engineering & Health Sciences (iBioMed), which combines engineering with health sciences and offers pathways into areas including chemical, civil, electrical, materials, mechanical and engineering physics alongside biomedical engineering.

Research opportunities can begin during the undergraduate years as well. In McMaster Engineering, for example, students can become involved in hands-on research as early as first year and work alongside faculty on active research projects.

Students are encouraged to come prepared with questions about programs, prerequisites and admission requirements, co-op and experiential learning, research opportunities, scholarships, residence, campus life and the application process.

The presentation is part of MetroPrep’s ongoing university guidance program, giving students direct opportunities to connect with post-secondary institutions, investigate different academic pathways and make informed decisions about their future.
