ESL Information

Metro Prep’s ESL Program for high school students is focused on preparing students for academic success in secondary school and university. The program covers all subject areas while improving student’s English reading, writing and speaking skills in each of these subjects. International students will gain a solid grasp of general and idiomatic English, as well as academic vocabulary and study skills.

With our Integrated Content ESL Instruction Model, students learn both English and academic content. Our integrated classrooms allow students to earn credit toward graduation in required core subject areas.

ESL Program

Metro Prep’s ESL teaching methods combine traditional classroom instruction with interaction, innovation, individual tutoring and technology. Computer workshops, language labs, concentration exercises, and other in-school activities are supplemented with field trips, student clubs, athletics and various extra-curricular activities that encourage English language practice and social and cultural learning.

Metro Prep’s ESL Program has specific student outcomes that define the program. Our students will:

  • use spoken and written English to gather, interpret and communicate information
  • use spoken and written English to establish and maintain relationships
  • use spoken and written English to make decisions, solve problems, and plan and carry out projects
  • be fully prepared for success in university

Metro Prep utilizes an Integrated Content ESL Instruction Model. The goal of our program is for ESL students to develop English language skills in their secondary school content classes and understand how to apply that knowledge.

International students have a limited time to become academically proficient in English. Therefore, Metro Prep helps students learn both English and academic content as an integrated approach, as quickly and effectively as possible. Our integrated classrooms allow students to earn credit toward graduation in required core subject areas.
